Real Madrid: Los Blancos eyeing a move for Liverpool’s Andrew Robertson

According to reports from Defensa Central (via Sport Witness), Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Liverpool defender Andy Robertson, with the view to a potential transfer in the near future.

Robertson has become a star at Anfield since joining the Merseyside club from Hull in 2017 and is now deemed to be one of the best left-backs in the world.

The Scotland captain, who has won 34 caps for his country, has appeared in back-to-back Champions League finals with Liverpool – winning it with the Reds earlier this year – and is a pivotal member of Jurgen Klopp’s team.

Madrid are considering options for life after Marcelo. The Brazilian has been a mainstay at the Bernabeu throughout the previous twelve years – making over 400 appearances for the Spanish giants – but, as he approaches the back-end of his career, could well be replaced by Bernabeu chiefs for a younger alternative in the not-so-distant future.

Defensa Central claim that Madrid have had scouts closely watching Robertson this season and have been hugely impressed with his performances for the Reds.

It’s stated that Robertson’s ‘energy’ is ‘greatly appreciated at the Bernabeu and Zinedine Zidane would have ‘a lot of interest’ in signing the 25-year-old when Marcelo leaves.

It is hugely doubtful that Liverpool would let their first-choice left-back leave the club considering his importance to the team.

Madrid also spent £47m on 24-year-old Ferland Mendy in the summer – a player who was probably brought in to naturally replace Marcelo whenever the South American does depart the club given his age – so the fact that they would try and buy another high-profile left-back does seem a little hard to believe.
