Real Madrid are eyeing up an audacious move for Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski in January, according to OK Diario (via Daily Mail).
Madrid are arguably in need of a new goalscorer, with marquee summer signing Eden Hazard scoring just once for Los Blancos this term, as they continue to rely heavily on Karim Benzema.
Fellow new arrival, Luka Jovic, is also struggling to make a name for himself in the Spanish capital having failed to find the net in each of his opening nine appearances for the club.
Lewandowski is widely known to be one of the world’s deadliest marksmen and it is clear to see why. This season alone, the Poland international has scored 18 goals in 13 appearances for Munich, per Transfermarkt, and was again on song when the German champions defeated Olympiacos 3-2 in their Champions League group fixture on Tuesday night, netting twice for the Bavarian titans in Greece.
The Mail have relayed that Bayern would be looking to achieve at least £65m for Lewandowski’s services – a fairly steep price for someone of his age – though there is no denying his immense threat in front of goal.
Benzema has been scoring for Real this term – netting six times in eight La Liga appearances – so if Los Blancos added Lewandowski to the mix alongside him, they would surely have a huge chance of winning the league title ahead of rivals Barcelona.
This move, if it came to fruition next year, would be a huge coup for Madrid. Lewandowski is arguably the best striker in the world at the moment and despite now being 31, is still proving that he has what it takes to cut it at the very top level and more.
However, the Spaniards will do well to remember that it’s still early days this season and there is plenty of time for the likes of Eden Hazard and Luka Jovic to prove themselves at the Bernabeu.
Would N'Golo Kante be a good signing for Real Madrid?
