Real Madrid will make no new signings when the transfer market reopens in January, according to AS.
Los Blancos president Florentino Perez feels as though Madrid have a strong enough squad to make it through the campaign, and, barring any unforeseen, long-term injuries to any of their current crop of players, does not believe that the club need any reinforcements until next summer, at least.
Speculation surrounding the likes of Christian Eriksen, Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek dominated the gossip columns throughout the summer and those names are once again set to pop up when the window comes around in nine months’ time; however, for now, Real boss Zinedine Zidane will have to make do with the €303m (£261.4m) he spent in the summer.
Things have not started too smoothly for the Spanish giants this term. Continuous injuries to key players has seen performances on the pitch fall way below par, and although by looking at the league table you would be forgiven by thinking that the club were doing fairly well, the fact that the team has failed to string two victories together across all competitions this season may leave cause for concern.
That said, Madrid currently lie sixth in La Liga, just two points off top spot with a game in hand over each of the teams above them – except Barcelona – so there is still plenty of hope that this season can be a success should performances drastically improve.
It is completely understandable to see why Perez is reluctant to bring in any more new faces at Madrid when you consider the vast sum of money that he invested prior to the campaign starting just three months ago.
This squad should have enough about them to be able to seriously challenge for both La Liga and the Champions League, and though their start has been far from impressive, there’s plenty of time to get things right with a roster packed full of world-class players.
