Real Madrid have not given up on their pursuit of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, and are reportedly set to make an offer for him this week, claims transfer expert Ian McGarry on the Transfer Window Podcast via the Daily Express.
Los Blancos have made Pogba their main transfer target all summer, but with United standing firm on their position regarding the France international, no progress has so far been made on bringing him to the Bernabeu.
However, with the European transfer window closing in a matter of weeks, the Spanish titans are desperate to complete a deal for the 26-year-old.
“We told you on Friday’s podcast our information was Madrid were going to make a bid for Pogba this week,” McGarry said on the Transfer Window Podcast.
“That’s only become stronger in the last two to three days and from the contacts we speak to with regards to what’s going to happen.”
“I do believe there will be a bid from Madrid this week,” he added.
Averaging more key passes per game (1.6) than anyone else in the Madrid squad last season other than Toni Kroos and offering a palpable goal threat from the engine room – having bagged 10 more goals than any Los Blancos midfielder in 2018/19 – it’s easy to see why the La Lig giants would want him.
Pogba is a player of immense stature – having won the World Cup, four league titles, numerous cups and was included in the PFA Team of the Year last season – so his signing would invariably be a major one by Madrid. Looking at the stats previously mentioned, the former Juventus man would add goals from the midfield (something they clearly struggled with last season) so would appear to be walking into a natural role in the Spanish capital should he move.
