Real Madrid players are raising their game in a bid to stop a ‘stormy’ reunion with former manager Jose Mourinho, according to the Daily Mail.
The British publication claims that Karim Benzema seems to have found an ‘extra yard of pace‘ and Sergio Ramos ‘grimaces’ at the thought of the Portuguese manager taking over.
According to AS, Mourinho has ‘sorted everything’ with regards to a move back to his old club. The 56-year-old was sacked as manager of Manchester United back in December 2018 following the 3-1 loss away to Liverpool (via BBC).
It is fairly understandable why the old guard at the Bernabeu would not want Mourinho back as boss after his spell there back between 2010 to 2013.
The former United boss was involved in a famous rift with Real Madrid legend Iker Casillas after he was dropped by Mourinho. It got so bad that Casillas, Ramos and one other player approached Florentino Perez and issued an ultimatum, saying either Mourinho leaves or they do in the summer (Marca via Bleacher Report).
As well as issues behind the scenes, Mourinho also failed to consistently deliver on the pitch with the Spanish giants, winning just one La Liga title and not a single Champions League trophy (via Goal). During his time at the club, Barcelona won Europe’s premier competition in 2011 as they defeated Manchester United as well as two La Liga titles, showing his failings.
Hiring Mourinho once more comes with one big problem: his ability to cause tension in the dressing room. This was apparent during his last two managerial spells at Chelsea and United, and Real would be smart in staying away from hiring the 56-year-old.
Would N'Golo Kante be a good signing for Real Madrid?
