Real Madrid have shifted their focus back to midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to a report A Bola via The Statesman.
Paul Pogba reportedly remains at the top of Real’s wishlist, though with Manchester United valuing their prized asset at €160m, it does look to have priced Los Blancos out of a potential deal for the France international.
Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen is also of apparent interest to Madrid, but with Spurs rejecting the Spaniards’ previous offers and seeming reluctant to part with the Dane – despite him having just a year left on his contract – Los Blancos are now reportedly going to turn their attentions back to Sporting Lisbon playmaker Bruno Fernandes.
Portuguese publication A Bola report that Madrid are preparing a bid for the highly-rated midfielder, who was on Manchester United and Liverpool’s radar earlier this summer, but will try and get him for less than Sporting’s €70m valuation before the transfer window closes on 2 September.
The 24-year-old notched 20 league goals for his current employers last season, whilst also chipping in with a hugely impressive 13 assists, per Transfermarkt, showing his class as the Portuguese outfit finished third in the Primeira Liga.
With the transfer deadline edging ever closer, Madrid are desperate to add one more midfielder to their ranks. Ajax’s Donny van de Beek was another player rumoured to be heading to the Bernabeu earlier this summer, but with no concrete advances being made by Los Blancos for the young Dutchman, it looks as though he will remain at Ajax until at least January.
Opting to sign Fernandes would perhaps be a shrewd move by Real. He is undoubtedly a smaller name than the likes of Pogba and Eriksen, though at 24 years of age does have longevity on his side.
The Portugal international proved his quality last term and showed he could cut it with the best by scoring three and assisting two goals in the Europa League; alongside the likes of Eden Hazard, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric in Madrid’s midfield, he could have the opportunity to really flourish.
