In this instalment of our TT Roundup, Football Transfer Tavern have gathered three of the biggest stories to have involved Real Madrid recently and have provided our thoughts on the reports published.
Kante heading to the Bernabeu?
Reports emerging from Spain this week suggest that Real Madrid are eyeing up a move for Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante. The France international is a fan favourite at Stamford Bridge, and deemed as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League, potentially the world, having won back-to-back league titles with Leicester City and Chelsea in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Kante has scored ten goals and provided seven assists for the Blues since arriving at the club three seasons ago, with Madrid now reportedly keen on acquiring his services to shore up a far from convincing midfield at the Bernabeu.
Sport (via The Sun) report that Madrid aren’t convinced with current midfielder Casemiro and are looking for reinforcements, with Kante among their preferred candidates due to his age and versatility.
Real Madrid signing Kante does seem to make sense considering his vast experience and ability to play both deeper and more advanced in central midfield. The 2018 World Cup winner has vast experience at the very top and is used to success in both club and international football; having him on board would further help the winning mentality at the club, which can only be viewed as a positive.
Ceballos hints at permanent switch to north London
Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos insists that he is happy at Arsenal and has no regrets about leaving the Spanish capital this summer, hinting at a permanent move to north London next year, via the Express.
The 23-year-old has registered one goal and two assists for the Gunners so far this term, firmly establishing himself as a fan favourite at the Emirates due to his trickery and intricate eye for a pass.
Ceballos, whose performances for Arsenal have earned him a call-up to the Spanish national team for their upcoming Euro 2020 qualifiers against Norway and Sweden, admits that he is enjoying his football after struggling for game-time at Real, saying: “I am very happy in Arsenal, I played 10 games where I showed my best level. Now I am where I want to be.” (per the Express).
Ceballos has certainly showed promise in England since joining Arsenal and seems to suit their aesthetically pleasing style of football. According to Football.London recently, the midfielder is viewed as a better creator than Mesut Ozil by those in north London.
In Madrid he didn’t feature an awful lot though in north London he is beginning to flourish, making a permanent switch to the Premier League seem like an extremely attractive proposition.
Los Blancos keep tabs on £100m-rated Donny van de Beek
Real Madrid have reportedly moved into pole position to sign Ajax midfielder Donny van de Beek, according to the Mirror.
However, the La Liga giants – who currently top the pile after eight games this season – are thought to be extremely interested in the Netherlands star and are lining up a £100m bid for him next summer (per the Mirror).
Van de Beek helped Ajax to a Dutch double last season and scored against Tottenham in the Champions League semi-finals. He has also now won seven senior caps for the Netherlands, so looks to be a great acquisition for a number of Europe’s most elite teams looking for a new, young central midfielder.
Donny van de Beek is clearly a talented player given his exploits with Ajax of late. Indeed, only two players in Madrid’s squad average more key passes per game (2, per WhoScored) than the 22-year-old, so he could provide a creative outlet should he move.
