Reports in Spain (via Sport) claim that Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane feels betrayed by Gareth Bale, after the Welshman complained about his exclusion from Los Blancos’ squad for their Champions League group stage clash against Club Brugge last month.
The relationship between Bale and his manager, Zidane, has been massively strained in recent months.
The very public situation during the summer – which involved the French boss suggesting that a move away from the Bernabeu for Bale would suit all parties – made it clear that the 30-year-old had no place in the Spanish capital.
However, after potential moves to China failed to materialise, Bale remained at the club and sat down with Zidane to discuss his role moving forward. During those talks, Zidane told him he would count on him and asked if he was motivated for the new campaign; Bale said yes, categorically.
Zidane started Bale in the club’s opening four games in all competitions (per Transfermarkt), but decided to rest the Wales international for the game against Brugge in order not to push him too much physically.
This reportedly angered Bale, who felt as though he should have been playing, and has now led to the ex-Tottenham winger becoming unsettled once again in Spain, with a move to China in 2020 seeming like a distinct possibility (via Sport).
The situation surrounding Gareth Bale at Real Madrid is just becoming more sour as time dwindles on.
It’s clear that the damage is done for the Brit at the Bernabeu – proven by these constant rifts with manager Zidane – so perhaps moving onto a fresh challenge next year is what is needed for everyone’s sake.
