Having already spent big money in the summer transfer window, Real Madrid have shown no sign of slowing down with this latest news.
Reports state that Zinedine Zidane is a huge admirer of Kante’s and that it would be a ‘dream come true’ for his countryman to move to the Galacticos.
It’s no wonder Real are so keen to bring Kante to the Bernabeu, with the 28-year-old averaging 3.5 tackles per game throughout his entire career. To put that into context, no one in the La Liga giants’ squad averages more than that and one of the major problems during their loss to PSG in the Champions League was how open they were.
The Frenchman has a wonderful list of career accomplishments so far; spearheading Leicester City to their first-ever Premier League title, winning the league straight afterwards with Chelsea, lifting the 2018 World Cup and the Europa League.
Rodriguez, meanwhile, has failed to wholly convince in the Spanish capital since moving from Monaco in 2014 and spent two seasons on loan with Bayern Munich, so could be viewed as disposable amid the vast array of attacking talent currently on the club’s books.
If a deal like this was accepted, it’d be perfect for Los Blancos.
Not only would they be shifting an attacking player they do not need in Rodriguez, they’d be getting a defensive midfielder of the utmost quality and someone who has won trophies wherever he has been in the last few years. Still, considering his importance to Chelsea – who only sold Eden Hazard in the last year of his contract – it’s hard to see them giving Kante up without a real fight.
