With Che Adams and Jota already moving on to pastures new this summer, Birmingham City have now had to say goodbye to Viv Solomon-Otabor.
Despite being offered a new contract by the Blues, the winger left the club on Monday after turning down fresh terms (via Birmingham’s official website).
According to Allnigeriasoccer, Solomon-Otabor is now expected to join Bulgarian outfit CSKA Sofia on a three-year deal, subject to a medical.
Having made 10 appearances for Birmingham during the first-half of the 2018/19 campaign, the 23-year-old joined Portsmouth on a short-term loan in January where he featured on a further 10 occasions in all competitions for the League One outfit, scoring one goal (via Transfermarkt).
When you consider that he was only able to produce two goal contributions in 33 Championship appearances over the course of the past four years (via Transfermarkt), it could be argued that he may not have been good enough to feature regularly at this level.
However, despite the winger’s ineffectiveness for the Blues in recent seasons, by moving onto CSKA Sofia, he has left the club with even fewer options to choose from in the wide areas which is an issue that Pep Clotet must solve between now and August.
With Jacques Maghoma being the only recognised winger in the senior squad, the Spaniard may have to use some of the £15m that Birmingham received from selling Adams to Southampton (via the Telegraph) on adding some extra quality in this position.
