Derby County fans here in the Tavern are hoping that their side can gather some momentum before the start of the play-offs, as they’ve only won one of their last five Championship matches.
The Rams have struggled for consistency throughout the current campaign as an automatic promotion place soon turned into a less satisfying play-off place. But, with one game left in the regular season before the play-offs come into effect, many of our local residents are hoping that their side can gather some much-needed momentum. And, it looks as if Gary Rowett may look to bring one of Derby’s forgotten stars back into the side, as according to Sky Sports’ pre-match team news, George Thorne is back in contention.
George Thorne established himself as one of the most impressive players in the Championship prior to his long-term injury layoff a couple of years ago, and he has struggled to get back to his best ever since.
But, it looks as if supporters may get to see him in action against relegation contenders Barnsley tomorrow, as the Englishman is back in contention having been left out of the match-day squad since the end of March. Interestingly, manager Gary Rowett hinted that the central midfielder could be involved on the final day, so it remains to be seen as to whether this will happen at Pride Park.
George Thorne could have a huge part to play in their push for promotion via the play-offs if he can manage to find his feet, with the final day clash against Barnsley providing the perfect opportunity. Although, with the season-defining match against the Tykes possibly helping them gain some momentum, Gary Rowett may look to play one of his strongest sides.
