According to France Football, Leeds United are keen to sign Dijon midfielder Mehdi Abeid in this January transfer window.
The 26-year-old has been a regular for the Ligue 1 club so far this season. However, his contract is set to expire at the end of this campaign, which may convince Dijon to cash in on him this month.
Leeds appear keen to capitalise on this situation to bring Abeid to the Championship this January. It would not be Abeid’s first experience of English football, having had a disappointing spell with Newcastle United previously.
The 5-cap Algeria international may well feel that he has unfinished business on these shores.
Leeds are currently flying high at the top of the Championship and will be hoping to secure a return to the Premier League after a 15 year absence from the top table.
Manager Marcelo Bielsa has worked wonders in his short time at Elland Road, cultivating an intense and intricate pressing style of play at the club.
However, the Whites lack a bit of squad depth, which could see their title charge falter towards the end of the notoriously gruelling Championship campaign. The arrival of Abeid would offer some crucial additional depth and experience in the middle of the park, which could prove decisive in Leeds’ promotion push.
