Leeds United are preparing themselves for the possibility that Brighton & Hove Albion could recall Ben White in January, that is according to a report from Football Insider.
The 22-year-old has been a key player for the Whites this season, but there is a chance that he could return to his parent club when the transfer window reopens.
White has been an ever-present for Marcelo Bielsa’s side this season and has played every single minute for them in the Championship so far (via Transfermarkt).
However, he is on a season-long loan from Brighton & Hove Albion, and Football Insider report that the Seagulls do have a recall clause in the deal which can be activated in January.
His strong performances will surely have impressed Graham Potter, and he may opt to take him back to the AMEX which would be a major blow for Leeds.
That said, the Premier League side are already well stocked in terms of centre-backs with Lewis Dunk, Dan Burn, Shane Duffy and Adam Webster already at the club.
It may be that Potter only activates the recall clause if any of those four pick up an injury, so Leeds will be hoping that the Seagulls’ defenders remain healthy over the coming months.
There is no doubting that if Leeds lost White it would be a huge blow for them. As already mentioned, he has been a regular for them this term and has been outstanding.
In his 14 appearances he has helped the Whites keep seven clean sheets (Transfermarkt), whilst they have conceded just eight goals, which means they currently have the best defensive record in the Championship (via BBC Sport).
Losing him could affect their solidity at the back, and it would also leave them desperately short of centre-halves. Other than White the only other recognised central defenders they have are Liam Cooper and Gaetano Berardi, so if he does go they would surely need to find a replacement, and it could be difficult for them to sign someone just as good.
