Ezgjan Alioski appears to have hinted that he would like to stay at Leeds United for the foreseeable future, according to quotes picked up by Leeds Live.
The Macedonia international accompanied Marcelo Bielsa for pre-match press conference duties ahead of their Championship clash with Derby County this weekend and was asked about the possibility of a new contract amid the fact that he could make his 100th appearance for the Whites.
“Of course. At first I didn’t think about this, but I’m really proud. Every game I’m proud as it makes you happy. Thanks Leeds and I hope for another,” he said.
“Lets talk about Derby. I’ve played 100 games, I’m happy, I’m proud and want to do another 100 [games].”
With the likes of Stuart Dallas, Liam Cooper and Kalvin Phillips having all signed new deals and one thought to be in the pipeline for Mateusz Klich, it would not be a surprise if Alioski was on a list of players the Leeds hierarchy will look to tie down to improved terms sooner rather than later.
The 27-year-old has been an important member of the Whites’ squad during Bielsa’s time at the club, as he has made 54 appearances for the Argentine across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
Indeed, he has continued to play an important role for the Elland Road outfit this season as well, as he has featured in six of their Championship matches so far, with four of those having come from the start (WhoScored).
Having been converted to a left-back by Bielsa, Alioski has continued to adapt his game and has become a rather solid defender in the process.
The Macedonian has averaged 2.5 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 0.8 clearances whilst also contributing with his attacking play as well. He has achieved 1.2 shots per game and has produced 1.2 key passes in his 381 minutes on the field (WhoScored).
As mentioned, it would not be a surprise if Leeds were planning to offer Alioski a new contract in the near future, despite the Macedonian not quite thinking about one at the moment.
There is no doubt that he has become an integral member of Bielsa’s squad since the South American arrived at Elland Road and it would not be a shock if he were to make a total of 100 appearances for his manager during his time in Yorkshire.
