Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips is edging closer to agreeing a new deal at Elland Road.
The Whites midfielder has once again been a key man for Leeds this season under Marcelo Bielsa, playing in all six Championship matches so far, and according to the Telegraph, has now agreed to a new five-year deal in West Yorkshire.
A new deal for Phillips will put to bed any notion that he might move away from the club after being linked all summer with moves to the likes of Aston Villa.
However, Leeds have now won their battle it seems, with Phillips set to sign improved terms and secure his future at Elland Road after becoming an integral piece of Bielsa’s machine since he took over the reins at Elland Road.
The 23-year-old is already averaging 4.7 tackles per game this season, building on his already impressive 2.6 per game he averaged last term (via WhoScored). These stats show just how important he is to the Leeds team in the middle of the park; he provides balance in an outfit featuring impressive attacking talents such as Mateusz Klich and Pablo Hernandez.
What a massive boost this is for the Whites. Tying down one of their top players to a new deal just when it looked like he might get a move to the Premier League.
Phillips is so so important to the team at Elland Road that losing him was simply unthinkable.
Hopefully the club and player can now move on and put all their focus into getting promotion back to the Premier League.
