The international break has come at an ideal time for Leeds United as Marcelo Bielsa has revealed he will look to use it as the perfect opportunity to get three of his players back to full fitness.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the Argentine revealed Adam Forshaw, Stuart Dallas and Kalvin Phillips were all in need of recovering.
“It is going to be a long period for us,” he said. “We have a lot of players who are not going to be involved in this period. We’re going to try to recover some of the players with some problems; Dallas, Phillips, Forshaw.
“At the same time we are going to try and improve the organisation of the players that usually are playing less. This is the idea we have.”
Indeed, it would seem that the international break has come at just the right time for Leeds.
Injuries plagued Bielsa’s side all last season with his squad picking up a mammoth 31 different knocks throughout the 2018/19 campaign and that could be argued to have had a real impact on their inability of winning promotion to the Premier League.
The likes of Forshaw, Dallas and Phillips have all been instrumental for the Elland Road outfit this season and it would have been concerning for the Whites if they were made to make do without them for a period of time.
According to the data provided by WhoScored, all three men have been key defensive stars for Leeds this season as they have all been mainstays in the side, starting all six Championship matches so far.
In terms of attacking contribution, they have also been excellent as they almost provide one key pass each per match, although Forshaw is the only one to have created a goal.
As mentioned, all three individuals have been key for Bielsa’s side and it would have been disappointing for Leeds if they had to continue their campaign without any of them because of what they offer them on the pitch.
The international break may ruin any of the momentum they may have picked up, but having the three back to full fitness could, perhaps, help to rebuild it after a frustrating loss to Swansea City last weekend.
