Mateusz Klich is set to start for Leeds United when they travel to Charlton Athletic on Saturday afternoon, according to a report by Football Insider.
The Whites head to south London on the back of a disappointing draw with Championship rivals Derby County and will come up against former player Lee Bowyer.
The game will offer Klich the perfect opportunity to move on from that poor result against the Rams as well, as he failed to convert from the penalty spot to double Leeds’ lead at the time and, potentially, put the game beyond doubt.
Despite missing from 12-yards-out last weekend, it would not be a surprise to see Marcelo Bielsa turn to Klich once again and include him in his starting XI for their trip to The Valley.
The Poland international has become a mainstay in the Argentine’s side and has been crucial in helping with the Whites’ pursuit of Premier League football, which has also led to reports suggesting the midfielder will be handed a new deal imminently (Football Insider).
Under Bielsa, the 29-year-old has made 59 appearances to date so far, scoring 12 goals and providing his team-mates with a further ten assists (Transfermarkt), with two goals coming in the current campaign.
Klich has started this season in fine form as well and appears to have picked up from where he left off last year, as per WhoScored, he has managed to average 2.8 key passes in his eight Championship outings, registering one assist.
With Adam Forshaw potentially available for the trip to Charlton (Leeds Live), that would likely mean Jamie Shackleton dropping down to the bench rather than Klich.
As mentioned, the Polish midfielder has been a crucial member of Bielsa’s squad over the last season or so and has been pivotal in helping to make things happen in the final third of the pitch.
With the penalty miss last weekend possibly still in the 29-year-old’s mind, the away day at The Valley could be the perfect tonic to help Klich put it behind him and carry on with his efforts to ensure Leeds continue their pursuit of winning automatic promotion.
