Leeds United suffer blow ahead of Reading clash later today

Leeds United fans here in the Tavern are hoping to bounce straight back from defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers, as they face a trip to the Madejski Stadium to play Reading later on today.

The Whites’ chances of securing a play-off place are slowly slipping away as Paul Heckingbottom continues to struggle at Elland Road, with today’s match against Reading being a must win for Leeds United. And, to make matters worse, many of our local residents recently received a huge blow as injuries continue to take their toll on United’s season. Indeed, according to BBC Sport’s pre-match Leeds United team news, captain Liam Cooper is doubtful for today’s game against Reading.

Liam Cooper suffered a dead leg in Wednesday night’s 3-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers after being substituted in the 36th minute. And, the defender is now a doubt for the trip to face Jaap Stam’s Reading side, so Matthew Pennington could come into Paul Heckingbottom’s starting XI.

Cooper’s injury comes at a time when fellow central defender Pontus Jansson is one yellow card away from being handed a two-match ban for the accumulation of ten cautions. So, defeat in today’s game against the Royals could be compiled with misery if the Swede manages to pick up another caution, with key games against Sheffield Wednesday and Bolton Wanderers up next in the Championship.

Landlord’s Verdict:

This is a huge blow for Leeds United with their captain being a doubt for today’s fixture against Reading, as a yellow card for Pontus Jansson could see the Whites without both Cooper and the Swede for their next match. Indeed, this has caused for many of our locals here in the Tavern to predict a loss against the Royals, after seeing their side let in two goals after the 26-year-old’s departure in Wednesday’s loss.
