With Leeds United fighting it out at the top of the Championship with just a handful of games to go, receiving a huge boost at this point of the season could work wonders for Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
And, it appears the Whites may have been handed one as one of their key players is on the verge of making a return to the side after a spell on the sidelines.
What’s the News?
Bielsa has confirmed that Kemar Roofe will be in the squad for the game against Birmingham City on Saturday afternoon.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference (via Leeds Live), Bielsa said: “Roofe is okay. He couldn’t play with the Under-23s because this week they didn’t play, but he’s going to be in the squad for the next game. The same with (Gjanni) Alioski.”
Roofe’s return to action will be a huge boost for Leeds and he could not have come back at a better time for the club.
With just a few more games left of the season, there will be plenty of anxious faces at Elland Road, however, the striker’s return will surely be able to help calm some of the nerves that many have.
The 26-year-old has been vital for the Whites throughout the campaign and his 14 goals have been a major reason as to why the club are in contention of an automatic promotion spot in trying to end their 15-year wait of returning to the Premier League.
It would be unlikely that Roofe will play from the beginning due to the lack of match action, leaving Patrick Bamford as Bielsa’s main option to start the game, however, giving him, say, the final 30 minutes or so could still be enough for him to get back some of his fitness and give him enough time to make an immediate impact in Saturday’s clash.
Leeds fans, what do you make of Roofe’s timely return? How much of a boost do you think it will be? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
