Nottingham Forest: Sabri Lamouchi provides an update on Michael Dawson and Rafa Mir - Championship

Ahead of Nottingham Forest’s trip to Ewood Park tonight to face Blackburn Rovers, Sabri Lamouchi has provided injury updates on both Michael Dawson and Rafa Mir in his pre-match press conference.

Championship Picks

Dawson suffered a calf problem in Friday’s victory over Stoke City and has been ruled out for the next two fixtures while the extent of the injury remains to be seen.

Lamouchi told the Nottingham Post: “He has had his MRI scan today, so we will know very soon. But for Blackburn and Brentford he is out.”

So far this season, Dawson has been partnered with Joe Worrall at the back, which has proved to be a remarkable double act in the heart of the defence. The pair have kept three clean sheets together and have been key to Forest’s very promising start to the season.

In place of Dawson against the Potters came Chema just after the half an hour mark, who made his Championship debut in the game having only featured in the EFL Cup prior to last weekend. Lamouchi could call on Tobias Figueiredo, who has largely been on the bench for the league campaign as of yet, or even Alexander Milosevic if needs be.

“I have some options and I am confident the players can play in this position.” Lamouchi added: “It is a chance for them to impress.”

Another player who could get the chance to prove his worth to Lamouchi is Mir. The 22-year-old, who is on loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, has been unavailable since the EFL Cup win against Derby County following a leg injury and could make the squad for tonight.

“Maybe Rafa Mir can travel with us because he is in good shape. We will see. We will take the decision with the doctor and with the player,” said Lamouchi.

Mir’s injury has left just Lewis Grabban as the only natural striker but even with such an onus placed on him, he has relished the responsibility having netted five times in nine league games this season.

Grabban’s form also means Lamouchi doesn’t need to rush Mir back and he has time to dwell over the situation. He continued: “We have two games to play this week and if he can travel with us, it will give me another option. If it isn’t the case tomorrow, then hopefully it will be for Saturday.”
