Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk has confirmed that defender Julian Borner is in contention to face Blackburn Rovers this weekend (via @Gids1980).
The German defender missed the Owls’ match against Leeds United last weekend through injury.
Borner was forced to withdraw from the starting line-up to face Leeds last weekend after twisting his ankle in the warm-up.
However, it has now been confirmed by his manager that there has been no adverse reaction and that he has been back in training this week (via @domhowson), meaning that he is available for their upcoming fixture at Ewood Park.
Who is the better coach, Garry Monk or Steve Bruce?
It means that Monk’s options at centre-back have been bolstered, and he also confirmed that Tom Lees has returned to first team training following an injury this week (via @domhowson).
He, however, has been out for much longer and still needs time to get fully fit, so Borner should come straight back into the starting 11 for the trip to Blackburn.
News that Borner has not suffered a serious is great news for Sheffield Wednesday, given that the German has been an integral player for them this season.
Indeed, prior to the fixture against Leeds the former Arminia Bielefeld man had started all 13 of the Owls’ Championship fixtures, helping them to seven wins and five clean sheets in that time (via Transfermarkt).
He has forged an impressive partnership with Dominic Iorfa at the heart of defence and has been key to Wednesday currently having the second best defensive record in the Championship with just 10 goals conceded (via BBC Sport).
