Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk has been nominated for the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award for September.
The Owls boss has been shortlisted alongside three of his peers, Alex Neil at Preston North End, Slaven Bilic at West Brom and Sabri Lamouchi at Nottingham Forest.
It has been a very good start to life in the dugout at Hillsborough for Monk, who was only appointed on 6th September.
The former Swansea City and Leeds United manager had an instant impact at his new club, guiding them to a 2-0 win against Huddersfield Town in his first game in charge.
He then backed that up with a 1-1 draw against Fulham where the Owls scored a last-minute equaliser, before securing a resounding 4-1 win against former club Middlesbrough at the Riverside to round off an impressive first month in charge.
All that meant that he picked up seven points out of a possible nine in September, which kept Wednesday in touch with the top six in the Championship.
Monk certainly deserves his nomination, given he went unbeaten in September despite only just arriving at Hillsborough.
Two wins away from home in the Championship is no mean feat, and a draw against one of the bookies’ favourites for promotion in Fulham is also impressive.
Form had been dipping for the Owls just prior to Monk’s arrival, indeed, they had lost three matches out of four under Lee Bullen before the ex-Birmingham City man walked through the door.
Having turned that around in such a short space of time reflects a job very well done in September for Monk and you wouldn’t begrudge him winning the award.
That said, Lamouchi at Forest was the only manager shortlisted to win three matches out of three so he is probably the front-runner.
Who is the better coach, Garry Monk or Steve Bruce?
