Steve Bruce will come up against his former side on Saturday when Sheffield Wednesday meet Aston Villa in the Championship at Hillsborough. A win for the Owls would keep their play-off hopes alive, although a defeat would seriously dent any slim hopes they may hold of achieving a spot.
Bruce has proved to work wonders with the squad when he took over, officially, in February, however, they will need to be at their very best again at the weekend as they come up against another one of the in-form sides.
What’s the News?
According to a match preview by Sky Sports, Bruce is hopeful that Steven Fletcher will be available for the game after missing last weekend’s goalless draw against Stoke City.
The Scotland international, who had to miss his country’s fixtures as well, has been on the sidelines with ankle and knee issues in recent weeks.
Rolando Aarons remains a doubt for the encounter as he continues his recovery from injury, as he also missed last week’s match.
Coming up against your old club can never be easy, especially given the form that Aston Villa currently find themselves in, however, Bruce’s side are also one of the in-form sides in the Championship.
He is yet to taste defeat as the Owls manager since being in the dugout and losing to his former employers is something he will want to avoid.
Fletcher has been instrumental for Bruce and Sheffield Wednesday following the manager’s arrival, having netted five during that time, including one in back-to-back games.
The 31-year-old has come on leaps and bounds in the second half of the season as well, as he struggled to make a significant impact during Jos Luhukay’s tenure at Hillsborough.
If the Scotland international is available for the game, then the Owls could be in a perfect position to keep their play-off hopes alive, whilst also putting a dent in the Villans’ chances.
