Wolves suffer selection blow ahead of Burton clash later today

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans here in the Tavern have a good feeling about today’s Championship fixture, as they’ll look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Nuno Espirito Santo has had a dream first season in English football as his Wolves side are on course for promotion to the Premier League, with a healthy ten-point cushion over Aston Villa in third position. Although, they did suffer a scare in their last Championship fixture against Reading, as star man Diogo Jota limped off with an injury in the first-half. And, many of our local residents received some negative news ahead of today’s clash with Burton Albion, as according to BBC Sport’s pre-match team news, Wolves are likely to be without Diogo Jota.

Wolverhampton Wanderers responded to last weekend’s setback against Aston Villa with a clinical performance against the Royals, but one sour note was the loss of Jota, who was helped off the field after taking a knock to his ankle.

Burton Albion are up next for the league leaders in the Championship, with anything less than a victory being a disaster for the Midlands club. But, it’s likely that Wolves will be without top scorer Diogo Jota for today’s clash, as the influential Ivan Cavaleiro will take his place in the starting lineup.

Although, one positive for the old gold is that his injury is not as bad as feared, but Wolves won’t want to risk him against a struggling Championship side as they’ll look to nurse him back to full fitness over the international break.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Diogo Jota won’t be a too big a miss against a struggling Burton Albion side, with the impressive Ivan Cavaleiro fitting right into the starting XI. Although, Wolves will be gutted to have lost one of their star men at a crucial time, with fixtures against fellow promotion contenders on the horizon.
