Sunderland have joined Charlton in the race to sign former Love Island star Dennon Lewis, who has been impressing at non-league side Wealdstone.
Black Cats boss Phil Parkinson will approach the summer transfer window in desperate need to rebuild his side after failing to gain a promotion place in League One this season.
Finishing eighth in the league table, the Wearside club will spend a third successive season in England’s third-tier and the pressure will be on Parkinson to deliver in the 2020/2021 season.
With a whole host of first team regulars set to leave the Stadium of Light, it is expected that Parkinson will welcome a variety of new faces to the club.
The Sun report that Parkinson has now joined a whole host of clubs with interest in Lewis, who shot to fame after appearing on the 2019 summer edition of Love Island, where he was dumped after just four days.
Sunderland join the likes of Huddersfield, Oxford United, Leyton Orient and favourites to sign the forward, Charlton Athletic, who are thought to have already agreed a £50,000 fee.
Lewis netted an impressive 14 goals and provided 11 assists during the 2019/2020 season which ultimately helped Wealdstone clinch the National League South title.
The 23-year-old initially began his footballing career with Premier League side Watford before having spells with Woking, Crawley Town, Falkirk and Bromley.
Lewis has impressed in the National League, 25 goal involvements at any level is not easy and the interest in him being shown is a credit to his form. Sunderland would not be a bad place for him to take the next step in his career but it does seem like Charlton are favourites to complete a move.
With the fee to get him looking to be a mere £50k though, he is certainly worth a punt if the Black Cats can convince him to move to the North East.
