27 games unbeaten, six league games to go, Luton Town could be on the verge of something special.
Saturday’s 2-1 win away to Bristol Rovers made it a club record 27 games in a row without a loss for Luton, and with the club now seven points ahead of second place Barnsley with six games of the season left to go, who’s to say the Hatters can’t go all the way until the end of the campaign and remain unbeaten.
In their final six games of the season, Mick Harford’s side faces away games against play-off hopefuls Charlton Athletic and Blackpool FC, as well as matches against relegation, threatened AFC Wimbledon and Accrington Stanley.
On paper, these seem like winnable games with just how well Luton have been performing this season, but with League One team now fighting from promotion and survival, clubs are likely to go above the call of duty and perform way beyond what most fans and pundits would expect from them.
For Luton, the ultimate goal is promotion to the Championship, but it should be a personal goal for the club to try and go the end of the season unbeaten.
Not only would it set a new bar for how good League One teams can be, but it would be the perfect note to go into the Championship with.
Luton would be set-up to have a fun year in the English second-tier, and entering the division with an unbeaten run will make the teams in the league worried about playing Harford’s team, as well as attracting new players to the club during the summer transfer window.
Ending the season unbeaten could set Luton up in the long run as a team quality players want to play for if they are promoted to the Championship, now the Hatters have to go out there and do it.
Luton fans, can Luton go all the way and finish the season unbeaten? Let us know!
