Four wins, 10 goals, two clean sheets, Portsmouth are hitting form in the league right on cue.
A 3-2 win away to Wycombe Wanderers extended Kenny Jackett’s winning run in League One to four in a row, and with Barnsley losing away to Burton, Pompey now sit two points behind an automatic promotion spot with a game in hand.
It’s looking set to be a dog fight between Portsmouth and Sunderland for second place in the table come the final day of the season, but Pompey both finding a purple patch and already outclassing the Black Cats recently in the EFL Trophy final, the south coast side could be set for a second promotion in two years.
The feel-good factor is well and truly in it’s prime at Portsmouth, and this mentality and atmosphere amongst the players and fans is something that can lead the club to a return to the Championship, and this has to continue by Pompey carrying on their current winning run.
Four games might not seem like a much, but with each game becoming more and more important for the side this run could snowball into something more for Portsmouth, and that something being the results they need to get promoted.
Winnable games against Rochdale, Coventry and Accrington Stanley make up nearly half of Portsmouth’s remaining games, and if Jackett’s side can keep the form up going into their crucial tie against Sunderland on the 27th April at the Stadium of Light, Pompey will be in a good position to getting another result over the Black Cats.
Results going against Portsmouth have helped the side greatly this week, now it’s up to them to keep their winning run going to the end of the season if they are to achieve promotion back to the Championship way ahead of schedule.
