Unsung Hero: Ryan Williams was everywhere for Portsmouth against Oxford United

Many at Portsmouth will walk away from their game against Oxford United filled with frustration, with their side having conceded the goal that cost them two points in the 91st minute.

This means that Pompey only have one win from their last five games, but one player who could not have done too much more to get the result is Ryan Williams.

When a winger is spoken about in glowing terms following a game, it can often be solely based on their attacking prowess, but Williams seemed to be everywhere for Pompey.

Going forward, the Australia international made 4 key passes, the most of anyone on the pitch, and 2 dribbles, as per WhoScored, though if there was to be one criticism, it would be that 3 of his 5 shots were off target.

He also showed a willingness to put in a defensive shift for the team, winning 2 of his 3 attempted tackles and making 2 clearances.

In addition, the 26-year-old came out on top in his personal battles, winning 4 aerial duels throughout the game’s entirety.

The aforementioned statistics indicate just how great the impact he had on the game was, even if it didn’t eventually lead to a win for Portsmouth.

Kenny Jackett will be hoping Williams can put in a similar performance against Southend United on Tuesday.
