Tuesday night was another disappointing one for Portsmouth, as two early goals conceded meant that despite playing against 10 men for over an hour, they could only come out with a draw against Burton Albion – even then, that was down to a 95th minute penalty.
So there won’t be too many positives taken from the game by many, though Christian Burgess’ performance should give some slight satisfaction.
This was his second consecutive league game playing at right-back and the 196cm tall defender did himself justice again.
Notably, it was his cross into the box that led to Ronan Curtis’ 39th minute goal, which helped get Pompey on the road to at least earning a point, as shown in the highlights video on the Portsmouth FC YouTube channel.
In addition, Burgess made 3 tackles during the game, as per WhoScored, which was more than any other Portsmouth player managed, while he also made 1 interception.
The 27-year-old used his aerial prowess to win 3 aerial duels, while he also made the most of his technical ability to complete 2 dribbles, 2 key passes and 75% of the passes he attempted.
All of this earned him a score of 7.0, which was the third-highest of any Portsmouth player for that game.
His performance may act as little consolation for Portsmouth though, as the draw means Portsmouth are 18th with six points from six games, which is definitely underwhelming even if the side does have games in hand on the others.
