Sunderland defender Tom Flanagan has said he would like to remain at the club past his current expiring deal.
Flanagan has made 64 appearances since joining the club from Burton Albion back in the summer of 2018, but he will see his contract expire at the end of this campaign.
Speaking about his future, the Northern Ireland international opted to make his desire to remain at the Stadium of Light known. Prior to his arrival at Sunderland, Flanagan had spells with Burton and Milton Keynes, spending time out on loan to no less than five clubs whilst on the books of the latter.
Featuring in over 60 games for the Black Cats, Flanagan has become a key part of their defence, playing in the League One play-off final last term. With hopes of a promotion to the Championship this season, the 28-year-old could see the club’s future very much determine a new contract being offered.
Fans of the Black Cats have reacted to Flanagan’s hopes of a new deal via social media and below are some of that reaction:

We’d need too unless can get proven replacements which isn’t always guaranteed as seen with forwards.
