Confirmed: Sam Allardyce appointed as the new England manager

Opinion is divided here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the conformation that Sam Allardyce has been confirmed as the new England manager.

The FA announced the appointment via Twitter on Friday afternoon with Big Sam leaving behind the Sunderland side he triumphantly kept in the Premier League last season to take the top job in the country.

The former West Ham and Blackburn boss has joined on an initial 2-year-deal which will take the 61-year-old through to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

The man from Dudley’s first game in charge will be against Slovakia on 4th September as the Three Lions get their qualification campaign for the World Cup underway.

The straight-talking midlander is one who splits opinion, often criticised for playing unattractive football, however, as our astute Landlord pointed out, one of his biggest strengths is organisation, something this England team has been lacking for about a decade, arguably longer.

Whatever our punters think of the appointment, they are all agreed on one thing (as they are ahead of every major tournament), we are going to win the World Cup in 2018.

Well then, we want to hear from you! What do you make of the appointment of Big Sam? Is he the man you would have gone for, if not, who? Let us know below…
