As quoted by The Sunderland Echo, David Moyes has revealed what Sunderland may be looking for in January ahead of what should be a tense second half of the season.
The Black Cats have struggled so far this season with only two wins to their name but have looked stronger in recent weeks, with even their performance in the loss against Liverpool last time out drawing plaudits.
Nevertheless, they are still in the relegation zone and so our local Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern are pleased to hear that new players should be coming in to bolster the squad.
In fact, the club returned to the bottom of the league over the weekend as their loss at Anfield coincided with Swansea’s incredible 5-4 win over Crystal Palace but they are in touch with safety, and Moyes thinks a little bit more quality could see them stay up for another season.
Moyes said: “I think we need to add a level to take us up a notch.
“The club has always had a resolute group of players because of the way Sunderland have kept themselves in the Premier League.
“We are trying to add a bit of quality and build the club up.
“We’ve got to hope that we are able to add.”
Moyes did not have much time to sign players in the summer window thanks to his relatively late arrival at the club, but did get the likes of Victor Anichebe in earlier this season, who has impressed so far.
The former Everton man will be looking for more signings like that as the club aim to stay up for another season.
