Sunderland will be right in thinking that they can achieve promotion back into the Championship this season.
Whilst they’re still keeping pace on the top two in the league, the Black Cats will be desperate to put the dark days behind them and give the Championship another go.
They have the quality in all positions and would certainly be right in thinking that they can achieve promotion this season.
With a helpful addition or two in January, Sunderland could be set to fulfil an entertaining end to the season.
So, what should they do? Well if Sunderland get the opportunity to spend during the transfer window, a margin of that budget should be spent on Blackburn frontman Dominic Samuel.
Samuel, (who is valued at £315k on Transfermarkt) was a very useful player for Blackburn in League One last season, as he scored five goals and provided another five as well.
Being helpful across the front-line including the wings would be something Sunderland look at as an advantage of signing him.
At the age of 24 as well, he has plenty of time to reach his full potential. What is known for certain though, is that playing 88 minutes in the Championship is simply not enough and a move away from Blackburn would be far more beneficial for Dominic Samuel.
The striker could be very handy alongside the likes of Josh Maja, providing the youngster with real competition and spurring him on to become a better player.
Things haven’t been pretty in Sunderland for a long time but with positive transfer moves like this, sooner rather than later the Black Cats could be returning to the Championship.
