Grant Leadbitter set for Sunderland medical

Jack Ross is thought to be on the verge of sealing another deal this January as Sunderland look to continue their push for Championship football next season.

According to a report by Sky Sports, Grant Leadbitter is set to have a medical at the club on Monday ahead of a permanent move.

The experienced veteran is set to return to the club after falling out of favour at Middlesbrough.

Leadbitter has not featured for Tony Pulis’ side since the start of August and has seen his chances of first-team football become slimmer with the addition of John Obi Mikel.

The 33-year-old will become the club’s second January addition after they managed to bring Jimmy Dunne in on loan from Burnley earlier in the month.

The Verdict:

The imminent arrival of Leadbitter will be a huge boost for Sunderland and Ross as they look to win promotion back to the Championship.

The experienced midfielder will know what it means to play for the Black Cats and how important it is for the club to be back in the second tier at the first time of asking.

The midfielder knows the Stadium of Light well, having played for the Black Cats as a boy and coming through the ranks in 2003 before moving on to Ipswich Town in 2009.
