The Sunderland fans are in the Transfer Tavern at the moment and after only picking up a point in their first game of the season, they’ll be hoping this deal will go through quickly…
Reports from the Chronicle have revealed that Sunderland are stepping up their pursuit of Aston Villa striker, Ross McCormack.
Following the departures of Jermain Defoe and Fabio Borini, Simon Grayson is in desperate need of some firepower in his side if they’re hoping to achieve their goal of immediate promotion back to the top flight.
McCormack hasn’t had the best of spells with Aston Villa and would welcome the chance to work with his former boss, whom he had some success with at Leeds United.
Despite his poor form for Villa, McCormack would be a very good signing for Grayson’s side and should he play to the best of his abilities then the Scot could fire them straight back into the Premiership.
The season prior to joining Aston Villa, McCormack bagged 23 goals and 11 assists in 49 games for Fulham.
For whatever reason, it just didn’t happen for him at Villa Park but he is still a top striker who can almost guarantee a side goals.
Steve Bruce has admitted he would be open to letting the forward go too so Sunderland could probably get him at a bit of a cheaper price than normal.
All in all this would be a good move for the Black Cats and given that they drew their opening game, it’s a move that should happen sooner rather than later.
