It’s time for Duncan Watmore to get his career back on track

After consecutive relegations, the Black Cats really need to stop the rot this season.

Things went from bad to worse for Sunderland last season, as they were relegated from the second tier. Losing is a habit the Stadium of Light outfit need to shake this season, as the club have ambitions of making an immediate return to the Championship.

Jack Ross has been charged with attempting to restore the club to its former glories. Sunderland have made some wise additions, such as Chris Maguire and Charlie Wyke, who both know the level. This should put the club in a good position to have a good season.

To look for any positive in the drop, it will give certain players the chance to shine for the club. One player that might be able to show his worth to the club is Duncan Watmore.

Now 24-years-old, it is time for Watmore to fulfil his vast amounts of potential. The pacy winger scored three Premier League goals in the 2015/16 season, but has seriously dropped off from that point, in part due to injuries.

Injuries have been a big problem for the player. His season was cut short last season by a cruciate knee injury during a game against Millwall, the second time his knee had proved a major issue for him. When he recovers from injury, he will need to show he still has the talent required to make an impact at the Stadium of Light. After he burst onto the scene in the Premier League after signing from Non-League Altrincham, his career has not gone the way some might have expected.

His pace and ball control could cause serious problems for League One defences. This will be a major season for Watmore, as he can show his worth to the club.
