Sunderland will be desperate to progress in cup competitions, as well as securing promotion to the Championship in the current campaign.
The Black Cats find themselves in a commanding position to secure promotion under Jack Ross, with two games in hand over Luton Town at this moment in time.
However, the Wearside club suffered a big setback on the injury front recently, as according to The Sunderland Echo, Jack Matthews is a doubt for Sunderland’s FA Cup clash against Walsall.
Sadly, the defender limped out of the abandoned clash at the Wham Stadium on Saturday afternoon, lasting just 17 minutes before being replaced by Bryan Oviedo.
Ross is hopeful that the injury is not serious and just a consequence of a nasty collision, but this has left him short on numbers for the time being, with Donald Love already suffering from a long-term injury.
“Adam is just an impact injury at the moment,”
“He’s sore just now, we’ll assess it on Sunday and see where he is for Tuesday. Then obviously another important league game next Saturday.”
The defender has been one of the standout performers for Sunderland in the current campaign, so it comes as a big blow that they could be without him for the Walsall clash and possibly even next weekend’s game.
Indeed, Jack Ross is already having to deal with a number of defensive injuries, so this certainly won’t make things any easier for him.
