Sunderland will be desperate to return to winning ways in League One as they failed to secure all three points against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
The Black Cats remain on course for automatic promotion straight back to the Premier League, but they can’t keep on dropping points in winnable games as it could come back to bite them. Although, it appears as if the club could secure a huge player agreement in the near future, as according to The Shields Gazette, Jack Ross is confident that Josh Maja will commit his future to the club.
Jack Ross is confident top scorer Josh Maja will commit his future to Sunderland and believes he is in the best place to develop further.
His current contract runs out next summer and talks are ongoing to tie him down to a new deal.
However, Maja could sign a pre-contract agreement with another club in January when he enters the final six months of his current deal.
“As a manager, and I think the owners know this, that I am invested in trying to progress the club as a whole.
“I know Josh will be a player with me until minimum January and I would expect him to be here longer than that.
“We can’t say that with certainty until everything is resolved from a contractual point of view but I have every confidence he will remain at Sunderland certainly for the foreseeable future.
“I think he will (sign a new deal). I have every confidence, what I do know is he is enjoying his football, playing regularly, contributing and you”
Josh Maja has the potential to become one of the best attackers in English football having come on leaps and bounds at Sunderland this season.
With Jack Ross confident on securing the services of the youngster on a long-term deal, supporters have every reason to be positive.
The striker shouldn’t try and rush a move to a higher division as he could struggle to enjoy regular minutes, which has halted Joel Asoro’s progress at Swansea City.
