With Joel Asoro’s departure, Sunderland desperately need to sign a striker.
According to Sky Sports News, Sunderland have made a £1 million bid for Cheltenham Town’s highly-rated striker, Mohamed Eisa.
With Joel Asoro leaving the club, Jack Ross been on the hunt to find a striker to lead the line. The Blacks Cats struggled to score goals last season and only managed to score 52 goals as they slumped to another relegation.
Eisa only joined Cheltenham last summer from non-League side, Greenwich Borough. The 24-year-old has been a revelation in League Two and was awarded the club’s ‘players’ player of the year’ and ‘supporters’ player of the year’ awards.
Jack Ross needs a man to fire the club back into the Championship next season. Although only playing one year of professional football, Eisa might just be a superb signing for the club.
As it stands, Sunderland only have Chris Maguire and Josh Maja on the books as forwards. Similarly to the recently departed Joel Asoro, Maja only has one year left on his deal and has refused a contracts offer from the club.
The only worry for Ross in terms of Eisa’s ability, is whether he can make the step from League Two to League One and perform well enough to get the club back to the Championship. He may have had a great season but it’s still his first in the top leagues.
Signing the forward might be a gamble but after two poor seasons, Sunderland might just need to take it.
