Sunderland could look to strike a deal in January for one of Scotland’s hottest talents at the moment.
The 23-year-old has hit 16 goals in his 15 Scottish Championship matches so far this season, which has led to a number of clubs across England to take a look at him.
In fact, it is believed Ross would need to compete with around 20 clubs to try and reunite with the striker he had on his books at St Mirren.
One of those sides is believed to be Swansea City, with them being reported to be offering around £400,000 for Shankland, whose contract expires at the end of the season.
With some of England’s Championship clubs thought to be interested in Shankland, Sunderland could have trouble landing him.
However, there could be a chance that the 23-year-old would want to work with Ross once again and with the way things are currently going at the Stadium of Light, the Black Cats could be playing in England’s second tier next season.
It remains to be seen if Sunderland do make an offer for the prolific striker, or if they take a chance and see what Shankland and Ayr United decide to do in January.
