Sunderland are thought to have taken an interest in a player this summer, however, it does not appear he will play a prominent role, should they sign him.
However, the Black Cats manager also revealed the Armenia international would not go straight into his first-team and would rather be a player that gives him another option to choose from.
“It’ll be something for the club to look at as a whole, there’s attraction because of the attributes I’ve mentioned, but it would very much be to give us another option rather than him coming in as someone to drop straight into the team,” he revealed to the Sunderland Echo.
The defender had played in a trial appearance on Monday and looked to have impressed Ross, who was in attendance as they faced West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League 2.
Ross’ admission would not come as a real surprise to those at Sunderland, as he has already managed to add plenty of players to the defence since being named as the manager.
However, Andonian should be a player that the Black Cats consider snapping up on a free transfer as the 23-year-old is a versatile player that will give them the necessary options.
The Armenian can play on the left, as well as in the centre, which is a position that they currently lack in depth and should look to address if they want to continue their fine form in League One.
