Our Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling fairly positive about their club at the moment which is really saying something.
Over the last couple of years things have gone from bad to worse at their club and that, of course, culminated in them getting relegated last season.
Naturally, then, the fear was that they’d struggle in the Championship but two games in under Simon Grayson and things have looked pretty stable and solid.
Indeed, they’ve not lost yet and recorded a fine 3-1 win over Norwich at the weekend with some of their new signings like Lewis Grabban drawing plenty of attention.
Grayson, then, looks to be doing a decent job right now and it appears as though he and Martin Bain are not done yet when it comes to signing players in this summer’s transfer window.
Indeed, as quoted by The Shields Gazette, Grayson said:
“You need good depth and at this moment in time we are probably not at the level I would like to be with the strength in depth.”
A fair assessment of his squad right now, then, and with just over two weeks left in the window the former Preston man knows it’s time to knuckle down in the market and get some deals over the line.
Grayson has done a good job so far at Sunderland and looks set to do the exact job at the club that he was appointed to do – shore things up.
Whether he can get the club promoted remains to be seen but stability is huge in the second tier and so in achieving that he’ll be on the way to a top campaign.
