The Black Cats will still feel confident that they can secure automatic promotion in the current campaign, but massive improvements are required as they can’t keep dropping points and expect to get somewhere.
Indeed, the League One club have drafted in a number of debatable transfers over the years, which have either worked out tremendously well or gone horribly wrong.
With that in mind, these these TWO Sunderland men are making their price tags look an absolute joke…
Sunderland secured the services of Donald Love for £1 million back in the 2016-17 season, and it’s safe to say that he hasn’t exactly hit the heights that many thought he would.
He came to the Stadium of Light as one of Manchester United’s most promising youngsters. But, things haven’t worked out for him as he’s never really been able to nail down a permanent spot and has suffered from injury for pretty much the whole of the current campaign.
The defender definitely tries whenever he’s given the chance but he just hasn’t looked good enough, and he would find it impossible to break into the side with Adam Matthews around, so £1 million has proven to be way too much.
Aiden McGeady has been one of the best signings that Sunderland have ever made as they managed to secure the services of the winger for just £250,000 back in 2017.
The attacker scored seven goals and provided five assists during his first season in the Championship with the Black Cats, and he’s gone up another level in the current campaign having produced nine goals and six assists thus far, so he will continue to play a crucial part in their promotion push.
Therefore, with it costing Sunderland £1 million to bring Love to the Stadium of Light, it just puts into perspective how much of a bargain McGeady has been as he offers so much more on the field.
