Marc McNulty is currently enjoying success away from Sunderland, leading to some supporters thinking what if.
The forward played 23 times for the Black Cats in the first half of the campaign after being signed on loan by Jack Ross, the former Sunderland boss who is now in charge of Hibernian, the team McNulty scored a hat-trick for on Sunday. The 27-year-old scored five goals for the north-east outfit, but just twice in the league as he fell out of Phil Parkinson’s plans, and was subsequently allowed to leave.
Fans have been reacting to the Hibs loanee finding the target and there has been a mixed response, with some saying it is typical that a former Sunderland player would prove himself away from the club while others have pointed out the low standard of the opposition he faced – BSC Glasgow.
Here are just a few of the responses to the striker’s impressive display.
How very Sunderland to say how very Sunderland.

Pleased for the lad. I’m not convinced cancelling his loan here was the right way to go tbh…#SAFC
