Sunderland will be preparing to close the gap at the top of League One on Tuesday night when they face Peterborough United at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats currently sit four points adrift of the automatic spots after a hard-earned draw against Coventry City at the weekend.
Jack Ross’ side have been playing well, having only been beaten once in the competition so far, but the Posh will provide them with their toughest test to date.
The midfielder, who has starred for the Black Cats over the course of the campaign, admitted it was an important game and that they still want to keep their winning run at the Stadium of Light going.
“There are always games in the season that hold more importance than others, at this stage let’s not get carried away, it won’t define our season albeit we do want to keep the winning run going at home,” he told the Sunderland Echo.
“We all know the importance of the game, we will recover and train well and go again Tuesday.”
Football is full of cliches these days and Power is right to state that the game against Peterborough will make-or-break their League One campaign.
Sunderland have already had tough matches, however, the visit of the Posh will be their most challenging so far and will give the Black Cats an idea of how well they can handle themselves against other promotion contenders.
The League One season is a long one and is not lost during the early stages of the year, however, three points now would certainly prove to be valuable to Ross’ men.
