Moyes draws up three-man striker shortlist to cure Sunderland woes

For a club that broke their transfer record on Deadline Day, the Sunderland fans in the Transfer Tavern are pretty down in the dumps, to say the least.

A number of late deals failed to come off for David Moyes in the closing stages of the window, while injuries to Vito Mannone and Fabio Borini have further rocked his Premier League plans.

Though the Scot’s arrival as a quick-fire replacement for England manager Sam Allardyce was heralded on Wearside, the nature of their transfer business over the past few months have frustrated the Black Cats in the Tavern.

Following Borini’s injury, the only recognised striker with top level experience is Jermaine Defoe.

While the 33-year-old remains the envy of many in the Premier League, the Evening Chronicle claim Moyes is well aware he cannot rely on simply Defoe all season.

That being said, he is reportedly lining up a move for free agent Victor Anichebe now that the window has slammed shut.

The 28-year-old left West Bromwich Albion last summer and worked with the former Everton coach while the pair were at Goodison Park.

Dimitar Berbatov, Nicklas Bendtner, and Peter Odemwingie are also understood to be under consideration as Moyes looks to cure his striking woes.

Will Sunderland be relegated this season? Let us know below…
