As reported by Sky Sports, Paddy McNair is set to be out for the season for Sunderland with our resident Black Cats fans here in the Transfer Tavern concerned at how that is going to impact on their season.
The men from the Stadium of Light have only just found their feet in the Premier League this year having finally won their first two games of the season in their last pair of fixtures.
A victory down on the south coast against Bournemouth was followed by a convincing 3-0 triumph over Hull City at home at the weekend which was only slightly tainted by McNair having to come off.
He actually ruptured his cruciate ligament during the first half of that game but played on until the closing stages of the second period where another knock finally took him out of action.
And now, scans have revealed the extent of the damage that could leave him out for the rest of the campaign.
The Northern Ireland international joined from Manchester United on a permanent deal in the summer and has made twelve appearances for the club in all competitions this season but it looks as though that total will now stay as it is for 2016/17.
How big a miss will McNair be Sunderland fans? Let us know below…
