O’Nien and McGeady must start against Southend today

O’Nien and McGeady must start against Southend today

Sunderland have been rather impressive in recent times as they continue to hunt down automatic promotion straight back to the Championship.

The Black Cats managed to secure another three points in their last outing as they defeated an in-form Doncaster Rovers side at the Keepmoat Stadium.

Interestingly, Sunderland will welcome Southend United to the Stadium of Light in their next League One fixture.  The Shrimpers were dominant in midweek against Walsall and now have their sights set on a play-off place, so it won’t be an easy fixtures for the Black Cats by any means.

So, Jack Ross must get his team selection right by selecting these TWO Sunderland stars…

Luke O’Nien

Luke O’Nien hasn’t really been blessed with a huge amount of chances in the first team this season, but when he has been called upon he’s always been able to impress, with one goal to show for his efforts so far.

Indeed, the midfielder will be desperate to secure a permanent place in the side under Jack Ross, but this has proven to be difficult due to the amount of experienced and accomplished players at the club.

Nevertheless, if the 24-year-old starts against Southend United later on today, then Sunderland will secure all three points and competition for places will hot right up.

Aiden McGeady

The experienced winger hasn’t been able to enjoy a regular place in the side due to an injury, but he has shown that he has plenty of life left in him during the limited amount of minutes on the field.

Indeed, the 32-year-old has the ability to turn any defender inside out and is an accomplished crosser of the ball, so the Black Cats must make the most of his quality in the final third against Southend United today, after struggling to piece together the final ball last time out.
