Sunderland have finally managed to bring an end to one of their ongoing sagas currently happing at the Stadium of Light.
The League One outfit released a statement outlining that the defender had breached the terms of the deal he has with them and had failed a fitness test once he returned to the club’s training ground, albeit sometime later than originally scheduled, after ignoring a number of written requests.
The club statement reads: “As a result, Sunderland AFC can confirm that it has accepted Papy Djilobodji’s repudiatory breaches of contract and notice of the same has been provided to the player.”
The 29-year-old is thought to have had no plans to return to the Stadium of Light and had looked to find a new team to join, something Sunderland had allowed him to do in July, admittedly on unpaid leave.
Everyone associated with Sunderland will be delighted with the news that the ongoing saga surrounding Djilobodji will be coming to an end.
Jack Ross has admitted that the player had no future in his plans for the club’s efforts to get back into the Championship this season and the Senegal defender had no interest in remaining with the team.
However, they will now need to focus on the situation with Didier Ndong, as the player is thought to be in the same position as the former Chelsea man and is desperate to leave the Stadium of Light outfit permanently as well.
