Portsmouth fans take to Twitter distraught after Posh loss confirmed playoffs

Portsmouth losing at home to Peterborough last night was definitely not in the script. The Fratton Park faithful fell to a 3-2 loss, a defeat that means they’re now going to have to navigate the playoffs as opposed to going up automatically. Luton and Barnsley have gone up via the top two, leaving Pompey facing the playoffs.

Portsmouth fans had it good for a lot of the season, and they were in pole position in League One right through from the end of September to mid-January, before eventually being usurped by Luton Town. The Hatters were one of the sides confirmed going up yesterday when both Sunderland and Pompey lost, and there were contrasting feelings amongst the supporters in League One.
Ultimately, the chances of Portsmouth getting promoted haven’t been completely dashed, it’s just made a touch harder. Fratton Park could still be a Championship ground next season, they just need to get through the playoff semi-finals to set up yet another Wembley final, and it could be a final against Sunderland which would be an interesting repeat of their Checkatrade Trophy clash from back in March.
You can ready the Pompey fans’ verdict on missing out on the automatics here:

If anyone thinks we're in for a chance in the play offs too, your having a laugh, couldn't even get that auto promotion when we had the chance, what makes you think we're in for a chance in the play offs. Pff. Pompey scared of charlton, scared of everpything.. End of. Good luck

I think its more disappointment of having the chance to put pressure on top 2! But hey we are Pompey it's never meant to be easy!!

Defensively shocking, won't reach the playoff finals with defenders bottling their challenges.

Goes to show how crucial that draw with Southend was when we were leading 3-0.

The Portsmouth fans will be confident of navigating the playoffs when they come about but for now, they’re just gutted to have missed out on the automatic promotion places.
